Making Mara

A petit, beautiful and tough Sicilian with attitude and grit. Mara was picked from an auditioning session of about five models. She was able to express herself well and was just gorgeous. In this sculpture I wanted to capture 'contentment': a lovely young woman at ease with her body and content with her personal life. She seemed to be in a very comfortable place mentally and was displaying this in her body language. The weighted stand leg supporting her body alongside the partially crossed balanced leg, gave a sense of beauty and dignity. The left arm positioned behind her in a relaxed state, provided a sense of stillness to the mind.

Making Eddie

I was commissioned to do the bust of Eddie Hall. This involved doing research, taking good photography, drawing sketches, and watching his 500kg lift video. This helped me better understand the man and his achievements. Then, I had a meeting with him in his training environment to get a understanding of his body language and gestures. I went on to make a maquette (a clay sketch) to confirm his gesture and the essence of Eddie. Once the sketch was approved, we completed the work over six sittings.
